Die Ursprungsformen des griechischen Akanthusornamentes und ihre naturlichen Vorbilder
Moritz Meurer's 1896 study for G. Reimer in Berlin traces the origin forms of the Greek acanthus ornament and the plants behind it, written for architects, ornament draughtsmen and design students. The 46 plates pair photographs of carved marble antefixes, palmettes and volute scrolls with clean line diagrams of the same motifs, giving designers both weathered stone texture and the underlying geometry of spiral-and-fan construction.
