Directoire designs for textiles
A French pattern album of 1793, drawn in pen and ink by an unnamed hand and kept as working studies of Directoire textile ornament, now at the Clark Art Institute Library. The 77 plates are uncoloured outline drawings of symmetrical acanthus sprays, rosettes, grape clusters and scrolled corner fillings, giving designers clean linework that can be traced, tiled or recoloured.
