Lectures on painting delivered by Antoine Coypel to the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, printed in Paris by Jacques Collombat in 1721 for academicians and art students. Woodcut and engraved ornament dominates: acanthus headpieces framing the crowned French arms, an allegory of the arts and sciences amid globes, scales and instruments, swelling calligraphic initials, and combed marbled endpapers in red, blue and ochre.
