An attempt to discriminate the styles of architecture in England : from the Conquest to the Reformation : with notices of above three thousand British edifices : preceded by a sketch of the Grecian and Roman orders

Rickman, Thomas, 1776-1841, Miller, William, 1796-1882, Radclyffe, William, 1780-1855 · 1825 · London : Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme · 17 pictures

Thomas Rickman's 1825 survey of English medieval architecture, published in London by Longman with engravings by William Radclyffe and William Miller, written to teach antiquarians and builders to date buildings by style, and the source of the Norman/Early English/Decorated/Perpendicular labels still in use. The plates are fine-line engravings of elevations and wall sections in flat outline with light hatched shading, isolating arcades, windows, doorways, mouldings and capitals against blank paper, useful as clean architectural line art, pattern details and period ornament references.
