Domenico Agostino Bracci's 1771 antiquarian dissertation, printed at Lucca by Leonardo Venturini, examines a fifth-century silver votive shield of the Ardaburius family found near Orbetello and held in Pietro Leopoldo's Florentine museum, addressed to scholars and collectors. The woodcut initials set letters against flowering scrollwork or hatched townscapes, alongside rococo headpieces with urns, shells and drapery useful as ornamental borders.
