Diuerse imprese accommodate a diuerse moralità : con versi che i loro significati dichiarano
An Italian verse translation of Andrea Alciati's emblems by Giovanni Marquale, printed at Lyon by Mathias Bonhomme in 1549 with woodcuts credited to Pierre Eskrich, made for humanist readers who used pictures with mottoes as moral lessons. Small emblem cuts sit inside grotesque frames: winged sphinxes, scrolling foliage, masks, and columnar side-strips with grapevines, usable as rules, corners, and headpieces.
