Dogs of China & Japan in nature and art
A 1921 study by V. W. F. Collier, published in New York by Stokes, tracing East Asian dog breeds through zoology and through Chinese and Japanese art for Western breeders, collectors, and readers of the period. The 104 halftone plates reproduce bronze and ceramic temple lions, jade and porcelain lapdogs, and ink paintings of puppies among rocks and chrysanthemums, giving designers animal silhouettes, curled manes and tails, and scroll-painting compositions.
