Dolls of the Tusayan Indians
An 1894 ethnographic monograph by Jesse Walter Fewkes, issued in Leiden by E. J. Brill for the Internationales Archiv für Ethnographie, cataloguing carved and painted Hopi kachina dolls for anthropologists. The chromolithographed plates arrange five or six standing figures per sheet against bare white, in flat opaque turquoise, coral, ochre and black, offering geometric mask faces, stepped tablita headdresses, feather sprays and a ready-made limited palette.
