Dürer
A 1901 Boston monograph on Albrecht Dürer issued by Bates and Guild as one of its small painter portfolios for art students and general readers. Twenty-two full-page halftone plates reproduce his panel paintings in heavy sepia-black tones: crowded adoration and All Saints compositions, half-length portraits in broad hats and fur collars, and architectural or landscape backdrops usable as dense tonal texture.
