Dresses and decorations of the Middle Ages
Henry Shaw's two-volume antiquarian survey of medieval dress and ornament, hand-coloured and issued by William Pickering in London in 1843 for collectors, architects and revivalist designers. Plates copy manuscript initials, enamels, tiles and costume: flat red, green and yellow grounds, white interlace beasts, diapered panels and figures in armour or choir robes, usable as drop caps, borders and pattern fills.
