Duodecim specula deum aliquando videre desideranti concinnata
A Latin emblem book of twelve "mirrors" for meditation, written by the Jesuit Jan David, engraved by Theodoor Galle and printed by Jan Moretus at the Plantin press in Antwerp in 1610 for devout readers and preachers. The copperplates are keyed with letters, stacking roundels, altars, kneeling figures, cloud-borne saints and beasts into diagrammatic scenes useful for allegorical layouts and lettered picture-keys.
