Duodecim specula deum : aliquando videre desideranti concinnata
A Latin emblem book of twelve "mirrors of God," engraved and published by Theodoor Galle in Antwerp in 1610 from the devotional scheme of the Jesuit Jan David, made for Catholic readers meditating on how God is seen. The copperplates each hold one titled scene keyed by letters A–K: kneeling figures before mirrors set on turned pedestals, radiant suns and rainbows, angels, ladders, grazing animals and small labour scenes in the background.
