Early American craftsmen

Dyer, Walter A. (Walter Alden), 1878-1943 · 1920 · New York : The Century Co. · 155 pictures

A survey of American furniture makers, silversmiths, clockmakers and other trades, written by Walter A. Dyer and published by The Century Co. in New York in 1920 for collectors and antique dealers. The plates are halftone photographs of single objects against plain grounds, shot side-on so that chair legs, splats and table pedestals read as dark silhouettes; useful for tracing profiles, turned-leg and sabre-leg shapes, and pierced back patterns.
