The early surveyors and surveying in Illinois
A short 1891 local-history paper by Zimri A. Enos, printed in Springfield, Illinois, on the state's early land surveyors and Abraham Lincoln's work among them, addressed to historical-society readers. Its single plate reproduces a hand-drawn survey plat: a ruled grid of numbered lots with acreages and bearings in cursive, cut by a meandering river channel, useful for facsimile map textures, handwritten numerals, and field-notebook layouts.
