Earthwork out of Tuscany : being impressions and translations of Maurice Hewlett
Maurice Hewlett's essays and translations on Tuscan art and towns, illustrated by the Scottish-Canadian painter James Kerr-Lawson and published by J.M. Dent in London in 1899 for English readers of art criticism and Italian travel writing. The plates are loose pencil and lithographic sketches — arcaded church interiors, carved capitals and pulpit lions, a cathedral front, figures slouched on steps — drawn in broken grey line on large areas of bare paper, useful for soft architectural fragments and unfinished-looking vignettes.
