Earthwork out of Tuscany
Maurice Hewlett's travel and art essays on Tuscany, issued by Scribner's in New York in 1908 for English-language readers touring Italian churches and galleries. The plates mix soft tonal reproductions of early Italian frescoes with loose pencil sketches of cloisters, carved capitals and single figures, plus small line vignettes of mourning and recumbent bodies usable as chapter-head marks.
