Ferguson, James, 1710-1776 · 1812 · Philadelphia : Johnson and Warner, Ann Cochran, printer · 16 pictures

An introductory astronomy textbook by the Scottish instrument maker and lecturer James Ferguson, issued in 1812 by Johnson and Warner of Philadelphia for young readers. Copper-engraved fold-out plates combine bare geometric line work — ellipses, orbital paths, ray bundles keyed by letters — with shaded globes, moon phase sequences and a sun drawn as a saw-toothed disc, useful as diagrammatic line motifs.
