The education of an artist
C. Lewis Hind's 1906 treatise on art training, issued in London by A. and C. Black for students and general readers of the Edwardian art-book trade. The 88 halftone plates reproduce paintings and drawings — Perugino's self-portrait, a long-haired youth in patterned cloak, Rembrandt's hooded old woman in an oval frame, a crowded interior ceremony — giving designers soft-grained monochrome portrait heads, period costume detail and vignetted oval formats.
