Eglentiers poëtens borst-weringh
Theodoor Rodenburgh's Dutch defence of poetry, adapted from Sidney's Apologie for Poetrie, printed in Amsterdam in 1619 by Paulus van Ravesteyn for the bookseller Jan Evertsz Cloppenburgh, addressed to readers of the city's chambers of rhetoric. The plates are small woodcut initial capitals in which the letter strokes are built from strapwork, scrolling foliage, satyrs, horned hybrid figures, birds and running hounds, with one armoured rider; usable as drop caps, spot ornaments or sources for grotesque figure motifs.
