Elemens de geometrie
Alexis-Claude Clairaut's Elemens de geometrie, published in Paris by Lambert & Durand in 1741, a beginner's geometry course that derives propositions from practical problems of land measurement, for students and self-teachers. The engraved plates group numbered figures on a page: triangles, arcs, inscribed and circumscribed polygons, and small pictorial vignettes of surveyed fields, hills and islands rendered in stipple and hatching, useful as diagram vocabulary, line-based ornament, or map-like fragments.
