The elements of astronomy, physical and geometrical
David Gregory's Latin treatise on astronomy translated into English and printed in London in 1715, bound with Halley's synopsis of comet astronomy and read by students of mathematical astronomy; this copy came from John Adams's library. The plates are engraved geometric diagrams grouped several to a page — ellipses and circles with lettered points, radiating chords and tangents, orbital paths around a central sun, and hatched globes ruled with meridians — printed in thin line on toned paper, useful as line-based diagram vocabulary, figure labelling, and page-grid arrangement.
