The elements of mechanics, comprehending statics and dynamics. With a copious collection of mechanical problems. Intended for the use of mathematical students in schools and universities

Young, J. R. (John Radford), 1799-1885, Williams, John D · 1839 · Philadelphia : Hogan and Thompson · 11 pictures

A school and university textbook of statics and dynamics by the English mathematician John Radford Young, revised by John D. Williams and issued in Philadelphia by Hogan and Thompson in 1839. The plates crowd dozens of numbered line diagrams onto each sheet: levers and beams with hanging weights, force triangles with dotted construction lines, pulleys and flywheels, projectile arcs, inclined planes, shaded spheres and irregular blobs marking centres of gravity, all usable as sparse technical line art or figure-number typography.
