A Spanish emblem book by the lexicographer Sebastián de Covarrubias Horozco, printed in Madrid by Luis Sánchez in 1610 for educated readers who read moralising verse alongside its pictures. Besides the emblem cuts, the pages carry long woodcut ornament bands: coarse black-line strips of scrollwork, winged grotesques, facing beasts and small masks, usable as rules, dividers, headers and repeating border tiles.
