Emblemas morales de Don Iuan de Horozco Covarruuias...
A Spanish emblem book by Juan de Horozco y Covarrubias, printed at Zaragoza in 1604 by Alfonso Rodríguez for the bookseller Juan de Bonilla, aimed at educated readers who read pictures as moral lessons. The 257 images are woodcuts: emblem plates pairing a motto with a scene, plus decorated initials filled with foliage, urns and scrolling vines, all in coarse black line on laid paper, useful as drop caps, borders and small allegorical vignettes.
