Emblemata
Hadrianus Junius's Emblemata, a Latin emblem and riddle collection printed by Christopher Plantin at Antwerp in 1565 for humanist readers and schoolmen. The plates here are letterpress ornament: bands and frames built from repeated arabesque fleurons in dense black line, with interlaced strapwork and leaf scrolls that tile seamlessly and can be lifted as borders, rules, or repeating pattern fills.
