Emblemata Andreae Alciati, iurisconsulti clarissimi
Andrea Alciati's Latin emblem book, printed at Lyon in 1548 by Guillaume Rouillé with woodcut frames attributed to Pierre Eskrich, made for humanist and legal readers who paired mottoes, epigrams and pictures. Each page sits inside strapwork borders of scrolled volutes, grotesque masks, rams' heads, swags and cartouches, with small narrative emblem cuts; useful for frame stock, ornament corners and printer's device motifs.
