Emblemata anniversaria Academiae Altorfinae : studiorum iuventutis exercitandorum causa proposita et variorum orationibus exposita
An emblem book recording the annual prize medals of the Academy of Altdorf near Nuremberg, engraved after Johann Siebmacher and printed for Levinus Hulsius in 1597 for students who declaimed on each device in Latin. Each plate pairs two engraved roundels: an obverse with an emblem — open book, burning altar, dragon with tablet, young tree — ringed by a motto, and a reverse carrying only lettering and a Roman-numeral date, giving designers ready-made circular badge layouts, letterpress Latin capitals and small line-engraved objects.
