Emblemata d'A.
Andrea Alciati's Latin emblem book, reissued at Lyon in 1550 by Guillaume Rouillé with woodcuts attributed to Pierre Eskrich, for humanist readers who read mottoes, images and verse epigrams together. Alongside the small emblem cuts are strapwork headpieces and tailpieces: masks with radiating hair, reclining winged hybrids, volute scrolls and framed panels usable as rules, cartouches and ornaments.
