Emblemata, et aliqvot nvmmi antiqvi operis
A Latin emblem book by the Hungarian humanist János Zsámboki (Johannes Sambucus), printed by Christophe Plantin at Antwerp in 1566 for scholarly readers, with a closing section on ancient coins. The small square woodcuts set figures in landscapes, streets and interiors inside dense foliate-scroll frames, cut in fine parallel hatching that suits vignettes, spot illustration and reusable border ornament.
