Emblemata Florentii Schoonhovii I.C. Goudani : partim moralia partim etiam civilia : cum latiori eorundem ejusdem auctoris interpretatione : accedunt et alia quaedam poëmatia in alijs poematum suorum libris non contenta
A Latin emblem book of moral and civil emblems by the Gouda jurist Florens Schoonhoven, printed by Jan Jansson in Amsterdam in 1648 with engravings by Crispijn van de Passe, for Latin-reading scholars and students. The 81 plates are small horizontal copperplates set in open landscape: figures in doublets, boots and plumed hats among trees, rocks, streams and thatched huts, with finely hatched skies and dense foreground weeds useful as vignette scenery, silhouetted figures and line-texture samples.
