A Latin emblem book printed by François van der Plaats in Amsterdam in 1704, with engravings after Crispijn van de Passe, gathering mottoes, verses and proverbs from sacred and secular writers for learned readers. Each plate is a circular engraving inside double rules: landscapes with castles, towns and lone trees, a human-faced sun, rays from clouds, a hand emerging from cloud bands holding a falcon-topped staff.
