Symbolorvm & emblematvm ex animalibvs qvadrvpedibvs desvmtorvm centvria altera
The second volume of Joachim Camerarius's emblem series, printed by Paul Kaufmann at Nuremberg in 1595, gathering a hundred emblems drawn from four-footed animals for Latin-reading scholars and collectors. Each engraving is a small medallion inside a beaded ring: a single animal — wolf, ass, bear and cub, sheep — set in a hatched landscape of low hills, round trees, villages and cloud banks, useful as roundel devices, animal silhouettes and stock pastoral backgrounds.
