Emblemes, ov, Devises chrestiennes
A Protestant emblem book by Georgette de Montenay, engraved by Pierre Woeiriot and printed at Lyon by Jean Marcorelle in 1571, pairing Latin mottoes with French verse for reformed devotional readers. The ninety-nine copperplates set single figures in open landscapes with towns, hills and clouds, each headed by a ribbon scroll carrying the motto, worked in fine open hatching that leaves large areas of blank paper; useful for banner shapes, emblem framing and figures holding attributes.
