Emblems of love, in four languages. Dedicated to the ladys by Ph. Ayres, esq
An English emblem book of love by Philip Ayres, printed in London for J. Osborn, pairing engraved plates with verses in four languages and addressed to women readers. The plates are small upright copperplate scenes in which winged cupids act out amorous lessons in open landscapes with a framing tree, distant villages and hills, and sparse foreground tufts, useful for figure vignettes, tree silhouettes and compact emblem frames.
