Emblémes; ou, Devises chrétiennes
A collection of Christian emblems and mottoes printed by Antoine Schouten in Utrecht in 1697, made for devotional reading and moral instruction. Each device is a small circular engraving with a Latin motto set in the rim: rayed suns over cloud banks and mountains, single trees, crowned serpents, fountains and frozen orchards, useful as roundel devices, seals and spot ornaments.
