Employment for the microscope : in two parts
Henry Baker's two-part treatise on microscope use, printed in London by R. and J. Dodsley in 1764 for gentleman naturalists and amateur observers of salts, infusions and minute animals. The plates are copperplate line engravings of single drops seen under the lens, each an irregular outline filled with needle clusters, hexagonal and rhomb crystal plates, fern-like dendritic growths, starbursts and zigzag ribbons keyed by italic letters, useful as diagrammatic crystal and frost motifs or as ready-made circular vignette frames.
