Enamels
A 1912 Methuen handbook on enamel and enamelling by Edith Dawson (Mrs Nelson Dawson), written in London for craft students and collectors surveying the technique from antiquity through the Middle Ages. The plates are halftone photographs of enamelled metalwork — Celtic bronze mounts and shield bosses, chalices, champlevé plaques and figured reliquary caskets — offering scrolled trumpet-and-spiral ornament, roundel grids, studded borders and flat robed figures in silhouette.
