English costume

Calthrop, Dion Clayton, 1878-1937 · 1906 · London, A. and C. Black · 51 pictures

A survey of English dress from the Norman period onward, written and illustrated by Dion Clayton Calthrop and published by A. and C. Black in London in 1906 for costume students, illustrators and stage designers. The line drawings show single standing figures in tunics, mantles, veils and cross-gartered hose, drawn in open pen outline with hatched shading and small inset details of brooches, hoods and shoes, useful as clean silhouettes and period garment references.
