Engravers and etchers : six lectures delivered on the Scammon Foundation at the Art Institute of Chicago, March 1916
Six lectures on the history of engraving and etching, delivered by print curator Fitz Roy Carrington at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1916 and printed there in 1917 for students and museum audiences. The plates reproduce old master prints in line, from fifteenth-century German engravings of saints, skeletons and armored riders to later etched landscapes, offering dense crosshatched shading, rocky ground, foliage and drapery folds for cutout or linework reference.
