Essays on the microscope : containing a practical description of the most improved microscopes : a general history of insects : illustrated with thirty-two folio plates (2nd ed. / with considerable additions and improvements by Frederick Kanmacher)
George Adams's microscopy manual, revised by Frederick Kanmacher and printed in London in 1798, describes instruments and the minute animals seen through them for gentlemen naturalists and instrument buyers. Thirty-two folio copperplates lay out numbered figures of polyps, rotifers, insect parts and hair-fine tentacles on bare plate grounds, giving designers spidery line work and dense hatched textures that read well isolated or regrouped.
