Essai sur l'architecture
Marc-Antoine Laugier's Essai sur l'architecture, a theoretical treatise on architectural principles published by Duchesne in Paris in 1753 for architects, patrons, and readers of the French Enlightenment debate on building. The images in the index are the book's letterpress ornaments rather than plates: cast rococo tailpieces with scrolling acanthus and grotesque animal heads, a bouquet of feathery leaves tied with a ribbon bow, and a strip headband framing a covered urn, usable as dividers, corner pieces, and border rules.
