An essay on the construction of wheel-carriages, as they affect both the roads and the horses : with suggestions relating to the principles on which tolls ought to be imposed, and a few remarks on the formation of roads
A technical essay by Joseph Storrs Fry, printed at Bristol in 1820 and inscribed to the Bath and West of England Agricultural Society, arguing how wheel construction, tolls and road-making affect horses and highways. Wood-engraved vignettes show coaches, private carriages and heavy stage wagons in side profile with harnessed horse teams, cracking whips and grass-tufted verges, plus a foliage-and-produce dedication border.
