An essay on the theory of painting
Jonathan Richardson's treatise on painting theory, second edition printed in London in 1725 for connoisseurs, artists and collectors, includes tabulated lists of painters, their masters and disciples. The plates are letterpress name-tables bracketed with typographic braces, plus engraved ornaments such as a winged putto holding foliate swags above a scrolled cartouche.
