Essays on several curious and useful subjects, in speculative and mix'd mathematicks : illustrated by a variety of examples
Thomas Simpson's 1740 London collection of mathematical essays on celestial mechanics, calculus and astronomy, printed by H. Woodfall for J. Nourse and once owned by John Adams. The plates are plain line diagrams: circles and ellipses crossed by chords, radii and tangents, with dotted orbital paths and italic letter labels, useful as geometric line motifs or technical-page texture.
