Essays sur la recherche de la cause pour laquelle l'Estain [et] le Plomb augmentent de poids qunad on les calcine

Rey, Jean, d. 1645 · 1777 · Paris, Ruault · 8 pictures

A 1777 Paris reprint by Ruault of Jean Rey's 1630 essays on why tin and lead gain weight when calcined, issued for chemists and natural philosophers reading early experimental accounts of combustion. The illustrations are small letterpress ornaments printed with the text: floral sprays in a fluted vase, a blank cartouche flanked by acanthus wings, and a dove with an olive branch over a heart, all cut in coarse black line on laid paper, usable as tailpieces, dividers and spot motifs.
