'Et ha-kedem Cælum-Orientis et prisci mundi triade exercitationum literariarum repræsentatum

Bang, Thomas, 1600-1661, Bang, Thomas, 1600-1661. Caelum orientis · 1657 · Hauniæ, Typis P. MorsiningI · 6 pictures

A Latin treatise on ancient writing, Hebrew, and the lore of the early East by the Danish theologian and philologist Thomas Bang, printed at Copenhagen by P. Morsing in 1657 for university scholars. The plates reproduced here are typographic fittings rather than scenes: a chi-shaped monogram ringed by the Greek letters alpha, epsilon, omicron and omega, and woodcut initial capitals set in dense acanthus and flower foliage, useful as monogram devices, drop caps and small black-and-white ornament.
