Ethics of boxing and manly sport
John Boyle O'Reilly's 1888 Boston volume from Ticknor and company, arguing for boxing, canoeing and other sports as physical and moral training for American men. Line drawings pair two kinds of subject: loose outline figures of bare-chested boxers mid-punch, drawn with minimal contour and no background, and tight engraved studies of weapons and implements — axe heads, spear points — rendered in dense parallel hatching.
