European enamels
Henry Hardinge Cunynghame's 1906 survey of European enamels, published by Methuen in London for collectors, museum curators and craft students. Halftone plates photograph medieval reliquaries, shrines and champlevé caskets against plain grounds, showing gabled roof shapes, arcaded panels, rows of haloed saints and dense scrolling foliage that can be traced for ornament, frames and figure silhouettes.
