Evening amusements : or, The beauty of the heavens displayed. In which several striking appearances, to be observed on various evenings in the heavens, during the year ... are described. To be continued annually
An annual guide to the evening sky by the English mathematician and reformer William Frend, printed in London for J. Mawman and aimed at general readers learning to identify stars and planets season by season; the copy came from John Adams's library at the Boston Public Library. The two plates are halftones added by that library: an oval bust portrait of Adams in wig and coat, and a view of two clapboard saltbox houses behind a picket fence, useful as period portrait framing and early American vernacular architecture.
