The evolution of architectural ornament
A survey of carved architectural ornament by G. A. T. Middleton, published in London by F. Griffiths in 1913 for architects, students and craftsmen tracing how motifs changed over time. Halftone photographs of capitals, corbels and moulded arches sit beside the author's pencil sketches, giving both stone texture in deep shadow and clean outline versions of foliage, rosettes and carved heads.
